Having a hard time getting programs to run and/or getting an activity non-responsive message that asks you to kill the program or wait for it to respond? Here is a quick list of simple tasks to speed up your device:
1. Install Uninstaller from the Google Play Store.
This is a great app that allows you to get rid on any applications not associated with the core system. What applications should you delete? That’s a matter of opinion, but if you have a really slow phone, best course of action is to uninstall all apps that haven’t been used in 3 days or more. If you have the desire to use that app again, and memory allows, you can always re-download it from the Google Play Store.
2. Install Advanced Task Killer from the Google Play Store.
Advanced Task Killer allows you to kill or shut-down applications that run needlessly in the background of your Android system. When you first open the app, you’ll notice that it contains a long list of the applications that you have installed on the device. These are all sucking memory resources! So to get your speed back, simply tap all the apps in the list so that there is a green check mark to the right of their name and icon. Then click the “KILL selected apps” button at the top of the screen. If you have the Advanced Task Killer app selected to shut off as well, it nicely delivers you back to your home screen after killing all the apps. Do this often to keep your system running smoothly.
3. Turn off Wifi and Bluetooth if not using them.
Both Wifi and Bluetooth use a considerable amount of resources searching for signals, it’s best to shut them off when not near a hot-spot or connecting to another device. To turn these off, go into your phone’s settings. Tap on “Wireless & networks” at the very top of the menu. Then if there is a green arrow next to the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth options, simply tap the arrow to turn them off.
4. Move applications to SD card.
To free up some of the phone’s memory capacity, it can be helpful to transfer applications to your SD card. Not all applications can be moved to the card, and some can be moved but will not function properly. It is best to test each app after moving to your card to make sure it still works properly. If not, simply move the application back to your phone. To move applications, go into your phone’s settings area again. Click on “Applications” it is the sixth item in the list, about midway down. Next, click on “Manage Applications” and then click on the “All” option from the top menu, it has a window pane look. Go through this list of applications by clicking on each one, and check to see if it is possible to move it to the SD card. It will say “Move to SD card” if it can be moved, otherwise the option will be grayed out.
Now you are free to use the more of the power and resources of your device.
